Stop the Overcoming Procrastination Struggle! Learn to Beat Procrastination
Sometimes it can feel like overcoming procrastination is impossible! It isn’t. Here are a few methods you can try to avoid procrastinating again.
Do The Hardest and Toughest Jobs First.
This will boost your self-esteem as you tick off the most difficult task in your to-do list. It will give you a sense of achievement that makes other tasks seem pretty easy to get done.
When making a to-do list, make sure you follow everything you’ve written chronologically by listing the most important things to be done on top and ticking them off as you go along. Not only will this be more organized but it will be easier for you to follow and focus on what’s next rather than choosing what you think you should do on the list.
Don’t Wait for the Right Mood at The Right Time.
If you keep waiting around for the right time, you are going to be disappointed. The right time never comes! Work is work, and the sooner you accept that the sooner your productivity will increase.
Stop Being a Perfectionist.
Self-esteem is tantamount to a job well done. But some people go to the extent of constantly postponing or delaying work because they feel they are not the best. This will not help with overcoming procrastination!
Often a perfectionist will beat themselves up over trying to get a job done perfectly. Pressuring themselves with unrealistic deadlines and viewing the outcome of their work negatively. This puts a mental barrier in peoples minds – stopping them from getting the task done. Perfectionism actually results in poor work because of their obsession with messing up!
Perfectionists are not the peak performers. This is because perfectionists spend all their time worrying about messing up rather than actually getting the job done!
If you are a perfectionist, have a good look at your priorities. Take a few small steps. Make an action plan, include realistic deadlines. Start your day early so you have time to get things done, review and make adjustments. Keep a relaxed attitude and you will be able to do your best.
Create Momentum.
Get up and start moving. This alone should help you snap out of your procrastination. Why? Because doing something (particularly physical) helps you to increase efficiency. And one you get up it is easier to keep moving.
Get up and go for a walk whenever you can. Clean out you desk and clear out all that clutter. This will help get your momentum going (or forward motion!) and will keep things going. Doing something (anything!) rather than slacking off builds momentum and gets you pumped for your task.
A little procrastination is fine. But some people get really pulled into the procrastination cycle. This can lead to chronic depression. If you are trying to overcome procrastination – be realistic. You are unlikely to stop procrastinating overnight. There is no quick fix. To be successful you need to develop a routine that works for you.
